Chewy Xbox

UPDATE 2: I had to pull Chewy Xbox from sale in the AppStore because my data is just too unreliable. People were trying my app and giving it one-star reviews because it didn’t work. I don’t blame them.

UPDATE 1: I use duncanmackenzie.net for my source of Xbox Live information, and Duncan says that “for those using my xbox api, the powers that be have put a limit on my requests… which I seem to have hit right now“. So you may find that Chewy Xbox doesn’t give you the information you need as much anymore. Sorry about that. If you know an alternative source of Xbox Live info online, I’d love to hear about it. In the meantime, I’ve contact Microsoft about getting into the Xbox Community Developer Progream, but haven’t heard back from them yet.

Chewy Xbox is the first app I created for Apple’s AppStore.

Chewy Xbox provides a way for you to quickly see whether your Xbox Live friends are online or not, using color-coding. All online friends are shown at the top of the list, so you don’t need to scroll all over the place to find your online friends.

As well, you can contact your friends by phone, email, and SMS directly. Once you pick a phone number etc, it’ll remember for next time, making it quick and simple to contact your friends.

Lastly, you can a see a list of games they’ve played, and the points they’ve achieved in the games.

Here I’ll do a screenshot walkthrough of the application. First off, you can see the screen that shows all your gamertags. You can see which gamers are online in green, away in yellow, and offline in red.

Note also that they’re sorted according to status, so you can find your online friends as quickly as possible.

Here you can see what happens when you click on a gamer. You see the gamer’s details, plus you have some options. You can contact the gamer by calling him or her on the phone, sending an email, sending an SMS message, or sending a message via the Xbox Live website. You can also delete the gamer from your list.

Here’s the screen you see when you touch “Games” in the previous screen. You can see the gamer’s games, plus the number of achievements they’ve earned for the game.
